THE YORKSHIRE PASTA COMPANY

Founder Kathryn Bumby is a farmers daughter and has always been a foodie, in fact at the age of 13 she was making scones and selling them in her village playground!

She had wanted to launch her own business for some time and had been thinking of what she could do, the idea for creating The Yorkshire Pasta Company came to her during a family walking trip in the Lake District.

The concept of making British Pasta, sustainably and without plastic planted in her head and grew like a seed. It took over her evenings and weekends until eventually she was thinking about it at work too, and pulling her car over to write down the plans!

We want to take pasta back to basics, with no compromise on flavour, making pasta slowly and authentically. Kathryn, Founder

Yorkshire Pasta is a family run business and while Kathryn is the face of the company, it is very much a team effort.

Many high volume pasta producers have lost touch with the traditional techniques, opting for rapid, high-throughput methods.

The Yorkshire Pasta Company is taking pasta back to basics, with no compromise on flavour, making pasta slowly and authentically, which is essential for enhancing the flavour of the grain and the pasta’s ability to absorb sauces, it is all about flavour…

High volume pasta takes only 2 hours to make, Yorkshire Pasta give theirs a day and a half… The pasta is slow dried overnight at low temperatures which creates the conditions needed to develop flavour, you could say that the pasta matures during this process.

Their legendary bronze dies create the rough surface on each piece of pasta which allows the sauces to cling to, elevating a humble dish of pasta to superb!

Sustainability is a key part of their business, from using a mill that is on their doorstep, to sealing their cardboard boxes with paper tape and feeding any food waste to happy cattle. There are even solar panels down at Yorkshire Pasta HQ where energy is collected and utilised for the business.

The pasta is then placed in specially developed paper bags. These are 100% recyclable and each one is sealed by hand with two signature metal fastenings. These fastenings make the bags look good and more importantly helps avoid using plastic!

We love their ethos and dedication to making a premium product, wherever you are in the UK, you can now buy 100% British grown and produced pasta, what an amazing achievement!
